Our cities are redefining themselves amidst an era of immense change: technological revolutions, increased social mobility, shifting economies, climate pressures, and changes are placing greater demand on existing infrastructure than ever before. Despite rapid advancement in other sectors, the built environment is often slow to respond.
Civitas Urban Laboratory seeks to help bridge this gap by advancing applied research that supports a more responsive, resilient, and integrated urban habitat. Our applied research capabilities are emboldened by experimental approaches to test what is possible, scaleable, and pragmatic given the new realities of the modern paradigm.
We seek to understand the forces that shape North American cities and develop tools, knowledge, and approaches that enable our cities to socially, environmentally, and economically thrive.
Civitas Urban Laboratory is led by a core director and operates with project-specific teams. Rather than maintaining a fixed staff, Civitas Urban Laboratory draws expertise from its core team of subject specific advisors, collaborating with a network of practitioners, researchers, and community voices to ensure an agile, yet robust practice.
Civitas Urban Laboratory is currently developing a pipeline of applied research and pilot projects.
Collaboration is key to the success of our projects and we're currently seeking partners to build our impact capability.
